St. Michael’s Speciality Camp

This year the Central YMCA will host a variety of sports and interest based specialty camps at St. Michael Catholic School in Gastonia for the first time! We are very excited about being able to provide these opportunities for our campers. There are 5 different specialty camps being offered at St. Michael with a range of interests from which campers can choose one week or all five!

Ages: K to Rising 5th Grade

Camping, like many Y programs, is about learning skills, developing character and making friends. But few environments are as special as camp, where kids become a community as they learn both how to be more independent and how to contribute to a group as they engage in physical, social and educational activities.

Campers will work on formations, vocalization, jumps, spirit and teamwork. Campers will work on honing their abilities each day and perform cheer and dance routines in competition form at the end of the week for family and friends.

Week Two

Cake Wars! Camp

Baking, decorating, presenting and of course tasting vari- ous baked goods in teams and individually to win challeng- es is the daily goal of this camp. Campers will record their challenges for our Y-Youthbakes Youtube channel. Each team will have the opportunity to teach others via the web about fun, safe and successful baking experiences!

Digital design, 3D pen printing, recycled materials art, knitting, and fashion design will give campers a chance to use technology and creativity to produce marketable items and sell those in an Etsy store. All proceeds from the store go to a community outreach fund to teach campers valua- ble life skills and character traits.

Week Six

Page to Stage Camp

This reading, writing and performing arts camp focuses on all aspects of creating a great story and producing and performing a great show! Of course the grand finale would be a live performance of a play written by, acted by and produced by the camp for family and friends

Week Eight

RoboTecs Camp

The future is here! Science, technology, engineering, math- ematics and teamwork will be the focus of RoboTecs camp. Our campers will a chance to design, build and operate a variety of robots.
