Welcome to the Gaston County Family YMCA, where we help you achieve optimum health and wellness while you grow in spirit, mind and body.  Whatever your personal goals - whether you are a new exerciser or a seasoned athlete, whether you want to be healthier, feel better, look better, meet new people, spend quality time with your family or connect with your community - our YMCAs offer a friendly, professional and supportive environment.

The Pharr Family YMCA offers the following Amenities:

Fitness Orientations:

All members receive complimentary one-on-one fitness training until they feel comfortable using the cardio and strength equipment.  Call or stop by and see a fitness attendant to set up an appointment.  Your fitness attendant will educate, motivate, and create a personal fitness program based on your individual goals.  Dress in workout clothes for your orientation.

 

Fitness Assessments: 

Fitness instructors can assess a member to obtain baseline information about cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, body composition, blood pressure and resting heart rate.   This data is used to create a workout program that meets a member’s specific needs.

Cost:  Initial appointment is free.  $15.00 for any retest.

Group Fitness Program:

At the William J. Pharr Family YMCA, we offer over many Group Fitness Classes throughout the day each week. A wide variety of cardiovascular, strength and flexibility classes will be available such as BODYPUMP, Step, Indoor Cycling, Yoga, Pilates, Kickboxing, FitTots, FitFamily, plus more.  Classes are offered for all fitness levels.  They are fun and a great way to meet friends, plus the instructor helps you stay focused and motivated.  Find a class that is right for you.

Personal Training:

Personal Training is one-on-one training with a Certified Trainer, who helps you achieve and maintain your fitness goals through, education, direction, and motivation.  Your trainer will design a personalized fitness program based on your fitness evaluation and goals, dedicated to helping take your workout to the next level.

Cost:

One (1 hour) Session - $45 Five (1 hour) Sessions - $205
Ten (1 hour) Sessions - $370 Fifteen (1 hour) Session - $495
All sessions must be pre-paid before any personal training may begin.

Youth/Teen Fitness:

Youth/Teen Fitness Orientations are designed to teach youth and teens basic information about cardiovascular and strength training, physical fitness and healthy lifestyles.   Members 9-15 learn about basic fitness, cardiovascular training and basic weight training.  Youth who have had a full fitness orientation and are wearing a visible Youth/Teen Fitness Badge may use the Fitness Center at any time.

Cost: $20.00 one time fee.  Members only.

Youth Attendance Policies

  • Youth under age 12 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian while at the Y.
  • Youth ages 12 - 15 may not be on the YMCA grounds for more than 4 hours without adult supervision, unless enrolled in a YMCA staff-supervised program.
  • Fitness Center, Pool, and Gymnasium rules are posted and must be observed at all times.
  • Proper and respectful behavior at the Stowe Family YMCA is expected at all times.  Failure to follow staff instructions may result in suspension of membership and program privileges or dismissal from the YMCA.

 

 

Functional Circuit Training Program

The Functional Circuit Training Program is a time saving workout that incorporates bands, med balls, stability balls, agility ladders and other unique equipment to give your body a real challenge.  It consists of a ten station 30-minute functional circuit designed to improve daily activities through resistance training, cardiovascular training and flexibility.  It is available free of charge to members Monday-Friday from 12-4 pm

See a Fitness Attendant to demonstrate the 10 stations and to answer any questions you may have.

Walk/Run Club

The Walk/Run Club is for all members from walkers to advanced runners who would like to receive advice on exercise programs for runners and walkers and information on local races in the community.  Members will keep a tracking sheet of workouts and keep a journal of your weekly mileage.   The program is free to members, just see a Fitness Attendant  to sign up and get your tracking sheet
