Afterschool Program Gymnastics and Dance Classes

Afterschool Gymnastics and Dance Classes (Fall 2015 Semester)

The Afterschool Gymnastics and Dance classes are for boys and girls that are currently enrolled in the YMCA Afterschool Program.  Your child will be picked up by the YMCA bus from their Afterschool site and brought to the Pharr YMCA for a gymnastics or dance class which will begin at 5:00 pm.  Parents should pick up their children at the Pharr YMCA when their class is over at 5:45 pm.  Registration is on-going, however, you must register no later than Wednesday of the week before your child begins the program.  You can register for 1 month, or for the entire fall semester.  Fall semester classes begin September 14th and 15th, and end December 14th and 15th.  Stowe YMCA Afterschool site participants will attend these classes on Mondays, while Central and South Gaston YMCA Afterschool site participants will attend these classes on Tuesdays throughout the semester.  Check the list of Afterschool sites by branch below the class descriptions to see which day your child will attend.

Afterschool Gymnastics

In this gymnastics class, your child will learn age-appropriate skills in tumbling, floor exercises, bars and beams. Rolls, handstands, cartwheels and other fundamental floor exercises are also taught in this fun and noncompetitive atmosphere.

Afterschool Dance

This dance class is for boys and girls that offers age-specific ballet and creative movement skills.  Students will learn French ballet vocabulary and movements.  They will also choreograph and create dances based on books and educational concepts like “outer space.”  At the end of the semester, students will share their dancing skills and choreography at a recital that will be held during regular class time.
