IT’S A WHOLE NEW EXPERIENCE!
Register now for the 2019-2020 School Year!
We’ve been re-evaluating our Afterschool Program and boy did we give it an upgrade! After thoughtful research, training and making meticulous choices, we couldn’t be more excited about the 2019-2020 school year!
The Y is dedicated to providing high quality, affordable, age-appropriate afterschool enrichment for your child when you cannot be there yourself. Children are served at both School Based Sites and at YMCA sites. Take a look at the information below to see where your child would participate. The YMCA Afterschool Enrichment program is open to all. Financial assistance is available to Y Members.
Your child’s afterschool day will typically run from the time the bell rings until 6:00pm and will regularly be comprised of 4 major components: Healthy Snack, Homework Time, Outdoor Physical Play, and Enrichment Activities. We work hard to make sure that sending your children to us in the Afterschool program means better quality time at home for all of you in the evenings. More time for dinner and relaxing evening routines, and less time wrangling any homework that still needs to be done.

WHAT’S NEW AND IMPROVED?
Healthy Eating and Physical Activity Implementation
We’ve integrated evidence-based curriculum and activities into our Afterschool programming and put an emphasis on the importance of healthy eating and physical activity. Through engaging activities, essential facts and education, and introduction of simple strategies Afterschool participants learn to make healthy choices at home or at school. Children will learn the importance of eating real, fresh whole foods, will learn to read food labels, and to find their love of physical activities that promote life-long fitness!
We believe that social/emotional education can be life-changing for children in our program. That’s why we’ve made it a priority to be intentional about character development. Our staff are trained to be intentional about emotional management, empathy, relationship building and are invested in your child’s personal development.
STEAM Focused Curriculum
We know that STEAM focused activities will support your child’s school efforts. Our activities are thoughtfully planned to highlight critical thinking, creative development, and real-life applications for math and science. We help children become more confident students with a strong sense of value and ability to work in a team.
FREE Session of Swim Lessons Included
Drowning prevention is a top priority for the YMCA. Each summer we invest in ensuring every child in Gaston County has access to free or reduced cost swim lessons to ensure their preparedness. But why limit that priority to summer when we could be teaching water safety all year long? So we decided to include a session of free swim lessons for every Afterschool participant during the school year. Swimming skills are life-saving skills.
