Seussical the Musical Jr.

The Warlick YMCA is very excited to offer this unique performance experience for young actors interested in theatrical and musical performance. The rehearsal process utilizes an educational approach, providing theatrical training & direct application in a fun yet challenging environment. Professional directors & theatrical design staff support these quality productions featuring young performers. 

The production will be supported by professional directors/stage managers, including a professional approach to costumes and lighting, allowing the performers to truly shine on stage. (Casting by audition only.)

Participants will gain performance skills, musical skills and theatrical training, confidence, public speaking, and coordination as well as deepen relationships with peers with common interests.



Auditions are open to anyone in the community ages 7-17 years and\or in grades 2nd-12th.

There is a $50 fee for registration. Once they are cast, we will register them into the official production.



Rehearsals will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30-7:30pm from October 1st – November 14th. Rehearsals will take place in the Intergen and Multi-purpose rooms at the Warlick Family YMCA.


Performances will take place at Holy Trinity Church. Tech week/Dress rehearsal requires rehearsals every night, Monday-Thursday the week of November 18th – 21st. Full Dress Rehearsal will be the 21st.

Opening night is November 22nd. Performances November 22nd and 23rd. Exact times are TBD.


Audition registration is $50. Once your child has been cast there will be 2 payments of $140. One due at the time of casting, and the next payment due November 1st, 2019.



Sarah Buckner has been teaching Theatre in public and private schools for the past twenty-two years and has been teaching and directing at Northwest School of the Arts for the past eleven years. Sarah also served as Executive Director of impACT Theatre in Gastonia, NC for ten years. Sarah has been awarded “Excellence in Directing” awards from the North Carolina Theatre Conference six times and her students have won numerous acting awards and scholarships to prestigious university and conservatory programs. Mrs. Buckner has also been featured twice in “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers”. Some of Sarah’s students have gone on to great success, including Tony Nominated Eva Noblezada (Miss Saigon), Abby Corrigan (Fun Home) and Phillip Johnson (Hamilton).

Jonathan Buckner has been a professional theatre arts educator in Gaston County Schools (Ashbrook High School, Hunter Huss High School) and has been involved in Gaston County community theatre for the past twenty years directing, promoting, teaching, and acting in plays with the Little Theatre of Gastonia, ImpACT Theatre of Gastonia, and Belmont Abbey Players. Most recently, he has performed in CPCC’s 2018 Summer Theatre in Oklahoma! And Newsies. Some of his favorite acting roles include Father from Children of Eden, Curly in Oklahoma!, Archibald from The Secret Garden, and The Cat in the Hat from Seusical the Musical. He is a 1990 graduate from Ashbrook High School, holds a BA in Secondary English Education from Elon University (1994) and was certified to teach theatre arts K-12 from UNC-Greensboro (1996).
