COVID-19 and the YMCA

Updated: March 25 at 12  p.m.

These are unprecedented times. COVID-19 (coronavirus) is a global pandemic and a national emergency, and nobody is certain what the days ahead hold.

It’s hard to imagine more difficult circumstances for operating our YMCA. We are a community organization. We bring people together – from all backgrounds and circumstances – and create personal connections that change lives through membership and programs.

But the nature of this virus, and how it spreads, presents significant challenges for our Y.

In light of recent updates from the CDC, Governor Roy Cooper, public school systems and our state and local health departments, and with an abundance of caution, we are making adjustments to Y programs and services.

Please check back here often for updates. Stay well. Stay with us.

In health,

Sharon Padgett
CEO
Gaston County Family YMCA

In an effort to prevent continued spread of COVID-19, our Y has made the difficult decision to close buildings effective Tuesday, March 17. The information below is an effort to update our members and participants on the impact of program and facility changes. If you have a question we have not addressed here please use this link and our leadership staff will be in contact with you.

Membership

At the Gaston County Family YMCA, everything we do is guided by our Mission and our commitment to serve and support the community. This is even more critical now. When you belong to the Y, you’re not only a member of a health and wellness facility, you’re a member of an organization dedicated to strengthening our community. In difficult times, our YMCA pivots in response to community needs and finds ways to use our resources to offer solutions.

Please take a moment to review our Membership Options.

Whatever you choose, we thank you for your support and understanding. Please take care of yourself and one another. Our community is strong, and together, we will get through this.
