Youth Basketball

Youth Basketball

Ages: 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-11

This recreational league teaches fundamentals while learning to appreciate basketball and refine physical skills using a small team size for all ages!  We focus on family involvement, team building, confidence, and developing our core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith with all of our kids.

Practice Locations and Information:Practice sites are offered at the Central YMCA in Gastonia and the Stowe YMCA in Belmont.  Practice options  are on Mondays at the Central YMCA, and Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday at the Stowe YMCA.  Teams will practice twice a week before games start on their practice day and Saturday.  Once games begin, teams will practice one time each week on their practice day.  There will be a break from December 23rd through January 2nd for the holiday season.

Season: Practices begin the week of December 15th, Games begin January 9th and 10th, 2014.  3-4 year olds will play games on Friday evenings, while 5-11 year olds will play games on Saturdays.  Games will take place at both, the Central and Stowe YMCAs.

Volunteer Coaches Needed: We need volunteer coaches in every age group.  Please consider volunteering to make an impact in your community.

Celebrate the kick off of ChristmasTown USA with a festive 5K under the lights.   Proceeds benefit the Pharr Family YMCA & McAdenville Women’s Club.

Saturday, November 29th @ 6:00 PM.

Registration will only be accepted during packet pick up Wednesday and Friday at Walk and Run Belmont during the times listed below.

Race is limited to the first 1200 participants. Register online until November 25th or download the form here.

Frequently Asked Questions and Answers.

How do I register online for the ChristmasTown 5K?

Will there be an early packet pickup?

Yes, and this is encouraged. Early packet pick up will be Wednesday, November 26th from 10am – 3pm, Friday, November 28th from 10am-6pm at  Walk& Run  Belmont, 200 Main Street. Packet pickup on race day will be in front of the Pharr Yarns corporate office on Main St and Wesleyan Dr. from 3-5:30 pm. You can pick up your friends bibs but must sign off.

Where will the 5K go?

The route can be found here. The race will begin at on Elm Street by Legacy Park and go left to the  Carstarphen Bridge. The route will turn around near the end of the bridge and go up Wesleyan Dr to the roundabout. It will go left at Church Street, left at Cedar and turn around at the stop sign. The route will head up and back on Cedar Street and Church Street, and go left on the roundabout towards McAdenville School. It will turn around near Forest Heights and run down the Wesleyan Dr. hill. Next the race will go left  on Main street. It will turn around near the Main Street median divide and end back down Elm Street near Legacy Park.

Can I walk the 5K?

The 5K is open to walkers and runners alike. However, be mindful of runners competing. There will be a one hour limit for walkers to complete the race.

Will the ChristmasTown Lights be on?

The lights will be on for the runners and walkers to enjoy. However, they will be turned off after the race has been completed, except in the area of the post party.

I see registration is full. Is there ANY way I can run the 5K?

Once we have reached the capacity. This number was based on the recommendation by the experts from US Track & Field, Cramerton Police, and  race committee approval.

Where should I park?

McAdenville streets will close by 5:15PM. Prior to this time, parking is available at the field next to Pharr Yarns corporate office by the Carstarphen Bridge. Parking and shuttle transportation will also be at Cramer High School, beginning at 4:30PM.

I am unable to attend the race? What should I do? 

Unfortunately, race fees are non-refundable.

Can I wear headphones, run with my pet or push a baby stroller?

Headphones and strollers are allowed, but please be aware and cautious of your surroundings. Pets are prohibited.

How many water stops are there?

There  will be at least two water stops for the 5K.

What awards can I expect for my fantastic performance?

Medals for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd per gender and in increments of five year age groups will be awarded. The post party will be held at Legacy Park near the finish line.

My family wants to volunteer. How can they?

Please have them contact Kelly Jones at kelly.m.jones@bankofamerica.com. Volunteers will a receive t-shirt, snacks, and lots of love from the YMCA.

Where does my hard earned money go for this race?

Your fees support the Pharr YMCA and the McAdenville Women’s Club.

The Pharr Family YMCA is excited to offer dance and gymnastics classes for ages 3– Teens. Our dance and gymnastics classes are designed to enhance fine and gross motor skills and cultivate imagination, creativity and social development in a caring environment. Students will grow and develop as they learn the fundamental vocabulary and skills associated with gymnastics and dance. Classes start September 2, 2014 and run through May 20, 2015. Registration is continuous.

All class are held at the Pharr YMCA.

Ballroom Rental

Have your next function in Christmas Town, USA! Great place to have your wedding, reception, Christmas party or your childs 1st birthday party. We have a ballroom that is approximately 36 ft wide and 60 ft long with beautiful hardwood floors and a fireplace with gas logs. Rental includes a kitchen that has ice machine, commercial size refrigerator/freezer, microwave, and stove. We also have chairs and tables available for your use.

Rental Fees:

Four Hour Rental: Member $100 /Program participant $180

Eight Hour Rental: Member $200 / Program participant $360

Each additional hour: Member $25 per hour / Program participant $45 per hour

Weddings and receptions are subject to a $100 fee.

A refundable $100 deposit is required to reserve the space.

Y After School operates throughout Gaston County providing enrichment from school dismissal until 6:00 pm daily. During this time we aim to shape character by modeling, teaching, and reinforcing positive values to all students. The YMCA believes in the character development traits of Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, and Faith.
